Sege, Greater Accra — September 3, 2026
Thirteen people have died and five others sustained critical injuries following a fatal road traffic accident involving a Ford Transit and a Toyota Hiace on the Sege Highway along the Sege–Ada road.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as the two vehicles were reportedly travelling from the Sege Highway towards Ada.
A total of 18 people were involved in the crash, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Personnel from the Sege Fire Station were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the accident. Firefighters worked to attend to the victims and assist in the rescue operation.
According to a report issued by Isaac Kojo Opoku, Assistant Divisional Officer at the Public Relations Department of the Ghana National Fire Service Headquarters, 13 of the 18 people involved in the accident lost their lives.
The remaining five victims suffered critical injuries and were transported to the Sege Polyclinic, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
The scale of the tragedy has renewed concerns about road safety, particularly along major highways where vehicles carrying passengers frequently travel between communities.
While the exact circumstances surrounding the crash have not yet been officially established, investigations are expected to determine what led to the collision between the Ford Transit and Toyota Hiace.
Authorities are also expected to provide further information on the identities of the deceased and injured persons as the necessary processes are completed.
The Ghana National Fire Service has expressed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured victims a speedy and full recovery.
The accident has left residents and road users in the area deeply concerned, with calls for motorists to exercise greater caution and for relevant authorities to continue strengthening road safety measures on the Sege–Ada corridor.
