President John Mahama has charged the newly constituted Ghana Armed Forces Council to prioritize discipline, integrity, and ethical leadership across all ranks of the military.
He emphasized that the strength of the military is built on the foundation of discipline, integrity, and ethical leadership, rather than just the size of the army or its weaponry.
Mahama stressed that the leadership policies and decisions of the Council will provide the necessary guidance for the military in the foreseeable future.
He urged the Council to approach their duties with wisdom, integrity, and a deep commitment to national service.
The President also highlighted the need for investments in the military, focusing on capacity building, modern equipment and technology, infrastructure development, and improved welfare and support systems for personnel and their families.
Mahama warned that corruption, misconduct, and abuse of power have no place in the military, and that the Council must ensure the highest standards of ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability.
The seven-member Armed Forces Council, chaired by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, includes Ministers of Defence, Foreign Affairs, and Interior, as well as other distinguished members .
