Pomadze, Ghana – H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, marked his first public engagement since his inauguration by attending the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission on January 9, 2025, in Pomadze, Central Region.
The convention, themed “Justice and Peace; The Essential Ingredient for National Development,” provided a platform for the President to outline his administration’s vision and address key national concerns.
A Message of Gratitude and Unity
In his address, President Mahama expressed profound gratitude to Ghanaians for entrusting him with their confidence and support.
“This marks my first public appearance barely 48 hours after taking office, and I want to sincerely thank Ghanaians for the confidence reposed in me. I am filled with a deep sense of belonging. The trust that Ghanaians have placed in me is both inspiring and humbling,” he remarked.
Justice and Peace: Pillars of Progress
Touching on the importance of justice and peace, the President emphasized their role as the foundation of Ghana’s national aspirations.
“Justice and peace are the bedrock of our nation. We are called to uphold justice, even against ourselves. Justice must not only be done but also be seen to be done and felt by all,” he stated.
He assured the audience that the new NDC administration is committed to ensuring justice for all Ghanaians, emphasizing the dignity and equality of every citizen.
“The new NDC administration is poised to ensure justice for all. We will ensure every Ghanaian is treated with dignity. Soon, we will establish a committee to initiate a National Constitution Review Conference, prioritizing dialogue over unilateralism,” he announced.
Resolving the Looming Power Crisis
Acknowledging concerns about a potential power crisis due to debts owed to power producers and faulty pipelines, President Mahama reassured Ghanaians of his government’s commitment to resolving the issue.
“There is a threat of power outages, but do not despair. You elected us to solve problems, and I promise we will keep the lights on. There will be no more ‘dumsor,’” he vowed.
Education: Sustaining Free SHS and Tackling Challenges
On education, President Mahama pledged to sustain and improve the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
He committed to addressing issues such as overcrowding and completing all abandoned projects while enhancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
“We will sustain and enhance the Free SHS policy, address overcrowding, complete abandoned projects, and improve TVET. A National Education Conference will also be convened to chart a new path forward,” he stated.
Economic Resilience and Job Creation
Outlining his administration’s economic agenda, the President highlighted plans to expand the tax net to boost revenue and introduce a 24-hour economy policy to tackle unemployment.
“It is our intention to bring more people into the tax net to reset the economy. Our 24-hour economy policy will help reduce unemployment and create opportunities for all,” he noted.
Healthcare Infrastructure and Anti-Corruption Drive
President Mahama reiterated his commitment to prioritizing healthcare by investing in infrastructure and human resources.
He also unveiled plans to combat corruption through a code of conduct for public officers and the operationalization of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) to retrieve stolen state funds.
“We will pass a code of conduct for public officers, and they will comply. ORAL will soon be operationalized to investigate and recover all stolen funds,” he declared.
Reviving Pomadze Poultry Farms
The President also announced plans to restore Pomadze Poultry Farms to its former glory, positioning the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission as the leading chicken producers in Ghana.
“We will restore the Pomadze Poultry Farms to its glory days and make the Ahmadiyya Mission the biggest chicken producers in Ghana,” he said.
The Way Forward
The three-day convention, chaired by Alhaj Maulana Noor Mohammed Bin Salih, Ameer and Missionary in Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, was a resounding call to action for justice, peace, and development.
President Mahama’s address reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to these principles as the foundation for building a united, prosperous Ghana.
His promises of justice, equality, and tangible reforms resonated with attendees, marking a hopeful start to his tenure.
