“₵600 That Stood Out” – Margaret Mensah Speaks on GHAMRO Royalties

Veteran gospel musician Margaret Mensah has opened up about her experiences with music royalties during an appearance on Ahotor Mmre with Obaapa Janee, sparking fresh conversations in the music space.

Speaking candidly on the show, Margaret Mensah revealed that over the years, she has mostly received around ₵100 as royalties.

However, she noted that it was only during Kojo Antwi’s time at GHAMRO that she received ₵600, an amount that stood out significantly for her.

“I got 600 as royalties, and to me it was far better than all the rest I have been receiving,” she shared.
According to her, the issue was not just about the amount, but about accountability, transparency, and feeling recognised for her contribution to Ghana’s gospel music industry.

Her revelation has reignited discussions around royalty payments, fairness, and the treatment of veteran musicians, especially those whose songs continue to bless many lives but are not always reflected in their earnings.

Margaret Mensah’s honesty on Ahotor Mmre served as a reminder that respect and proper systems matter as much as financial figures.

As conversations around GHAMRO continue, her comments highlight the need for improved structures that better honour and support musicians today.
