We need more Education on Mandatory Towing levy -GPRTU

The Branch Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of The Achimota New Station terminal, Mr. Owusu has called on the Ministry of Transport ,the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and other relevant authorities to adequately educate the public and drivers on all the modalities involved in the process.

According to Mr. Owusu he believes most of the drivers do not have any idea on the levy.

In a telephone conversation with Ahotor FM morning show host Emmanuel Quarshie (Hitman), Mr. Owusu stated that payment to the DVLA will not be a problem if only proper measures are put in place to prevent the issues of middle men known as ‘goro boys’.

It can be recalled that the parliamentary committee on Road and Transport has recommended to the government to go ahead with the contract it signed with a private company for the towing of break down and abandoned vehicles on the road.

The chairman of the committee, Mr Samuel Ayeh-Paye told journalists on Tuesday that the execution of the contract, signed in 2016, would ensure that break down vehicles were cleared from the roads to ensure the safety of motorists.

The government, acting through the National Road safety Commission (NRSC), signed the agreement with the Road Safety Management service Limited (RSMSC) on October 16, 2016 for the towing of break down and abandoned vehicles.
