U-19 cricket team ready for CWC qualification
Ghana’s U-19 cricket team safely arrived in Nairobi, Kenya on Thursday, June 29, 2017 for the 2018 ICC U-19 CWC qualification.
The Africa division 2 gold medalists will battle the likes of Uganda, Botswana and host nation Kenya for the sole slot qualification to New Zealand 2018 Cricket World Cup.
Ghana who were unbeaten at the ICC U-19 Africa division 2 in South Africa, Benoni last September, will play each of their opponents twice in Nairobi, making it a total of 6 matches.
The qualifiers which will begin on Saturday, July 1 to 8, 2017, will see Ghana playing their first match against Kenya on Sunday, July 1. They will move on to play Uganda on Sunday, July 2. After a break on Monday, they will engage Botswana on Tuesday, July 4 and play Kenya on Wednesday, July 5. Their last two matches will be against Uganda and Botswana on Friday and Saturday, July 7 & 8, 2017. They will then depart for Ghana on Sunday, July 9, 2017.
The team that won Gold in South Africa is unchanged with Captain Rexford Bakum leading the likes of Michael Aboagye, Joseph Aboagye, Kelvin Marko Awala, Aziz Sualley, and Emmanuel Boateng.
The rest are Philip Yevugah, David Mario Pereira, Abdulai Majah Mohammed, and Joseph Kwame Theodore.
We also have Francis Kobla Anani, Daniel Kwabena Anefie, Joseph Oko Adotei and Alex Osei who are poised to make Ghana proud.
The team is headed by Coach Francis Bakiweyem and Managed by Lawrence Ahadzi.
Preparation wise, the team had training schedules after they returned from Benoni on weekends while most of the players engaged in the ongoing Greater Accra Cricket League with their respective clubs before their departure on Wednesday evening.
