Twyford Ceramics Factory did not start under the NPP government – Former Western Regional Minister

The Former western regional minister, Hon. Paul Evans Aidoo has stated that former President John Mahama started the Twyford Ceramics Factory at Shama in the western region but unfortunately could not commission it due to change of government.

According to the former regional minister the process for the establishment of the factory did not take just a day but stated from the Mahama led government.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s morning show on Monday, 15th January, 2018. Paul Evans Aidoo made it clear that the president made a false stated by categorizing the factory under the one district one factory initiative.

“For Nana Addo to say that the Twyford Ceramics Factory is part of the One-district-one factory is most unfortunate, because there is no documentation that proofs even land acquisition by the current government”

“The president could have simply indicated the period it started and acknowledge the work done by the previous government, especially President Mahama. I can clearly state that the land documentation, EPA authorization and electricity acquisition took almost eight months” He Stated.

The former western regional minister also stated that government should be truthful on their project they embark on to prevent the disgrace and embarrassment the government is going through.

President Akufo-Addo has stated that the new paradigm of economic development which his administration is vigorously pursuing will improve the business climate in Ghana.

According to the President, it is common knowledge that in recent years industry has not done well, as growth rate in industry slumped to -0.5% in 2016, as opposed to a growth rate of 15.1%, at the end of 2008.

However, the President stated that “as a result of the normalisation of the power situation in the country, and the implementation of government’s pro-business policies, I believe our objective of shifting the focus of our economy from taxation to production is bearing fruit.

“In 2017, industry grew at 17.7%, a radically marked improvement on its abysmal 2016 performance in the last year of the Mahama administration.”

President Akufo-Addo made this known on Saturday, 13th January, 2018, when he commissioned the Twyford Ceramics Factory, at Shama, in the Western Region.
