Thumb-printed ballot papers fake – Police

The Ashanti regional police command has said the purported bags of thumb-printed ballot papers found in a hotel in Kumasi are fake.

He described the “noise as irresponsible, unnecessary and uncalled for.”

COP Kofi Boakye said at a press conference Monday that the Electoral Commission has inspected the said papers and they are not genuine.

He said the Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Serebour Quarcoo, has also confirmed the outcome.

“He [Quarcoo] came saying it was not part of the materials which means they are fake,” the police capo said.

Reports were rife Monday that the law enforcement agency had intercepted three bags loaded with materials reported to be thumb-printed presidential ballot papers at the Madison Hotel at TUC in Kumasi.

According to DCOP Boakye, none of the papers had serial numbers.

The three bags have since been deposited at the Kumasi Central Police station for further investigations.
