Preliminary Investigations by the police have revealed that the taxi driver who was alleged to have been beaten and stripped naked by a police officer at Anyaa in Accra, verbally assaulted the officer. According to the Public Affairs Director at the Police headquarters, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, the taxi driver, Kwabena Danso, insulted the officer, Gabriel Tabri, after he was confronted for allegedly jumping red traffic light.
“He subsequently held the driver’s top dress but he (the driver) tore that one also to free himself,” Mr Arthur narrated.
Angered by the move, he said, Kwabena Danso removed Gabriel Tabri’s police cap and threw it on the ground.
Mr Arthur said the taxi driver immediately after the act, jumped onto a motorbike and sped off.
According to him, the police were still conducting investigations into the matter and would finally come up with their report soon.
Gabriel Tabriz, earlier this month, was said to have lost control of his temper and brutalized a taxi driver for allegedly jumping red traffic light.
The police officer with service number 36832 in a fit of rage accosted the victim at a Fuel Station after reportedly jumping the light, assaulted him and in the course of it stripped the taxicab driver naked in the full glare of the public.
A picture of the purported incident went viral which led the police to investigate the issue.
