Students in police grip for alleged murder of pastor

Two students of the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) have been arrested in connection with the murder of the head pastor of Endtime Bible Believers Fellowship at his residence at Kumbuyili, near Tamale, in the Northern Region.

The suspects, Dojie Kwame, 28, and Akwasi Obo, 21, were arrested last Saturday on a tip-off after they had offered for sale a Toyota Highlander 4×4 vehicle they allegedly took away from the pastor’s residence after the attack.

Dojie, who is said to be a co-tenant of the deceased, and his accomplice, Obo, also took away an unspecified sum of money from the pastor’s residence.

The deceased, whose body has been deposited in the mortuary of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), has been identified as Ebenezer Ocran, 64, a native of Takoradi in the Western Region.

The spokesperson of the Northern Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Mohammed Yusif Tanko, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects allegedly attacked and killed the pastor at his residence at Kumbuyili, near Malshegu, on Friday, November 10, 2017.

He said the suspects took away a blue Toyota Highlander with registration number GN1763-14 and an unspecified amount of money.

The officer said a pastor of the church lodged a complaint with the police upon detection of the crime, and on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at about 3 p.m., Mr Tanko said, the Tamale Metropolitan Police crime office had information that a Toyota Highlander had been sent to a sprayer in the Tamale Industrial Area for the colour of the vehicle to be changed in order for it to be sold.

Based on the information, he said, some detectives were despatched to the scene but missed the suspects narrowly.

Mr Tanko said Dojie, a co-tenant of the deceased, was identified as the person who had offered the vehicle for sale.

He said Obo, a cousin of Dojie, who was also identified as an accomplice, had denied any involvement in the crime.

Both suspects are currently assisting the police in investigations.
