Sammy Crabbe Stopped From Picking NPP Nomination Forms

Suspended National Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, was on Friday reportedly prevented from picking nomination forms to contest for the position of National Chairman in the upcoming national executive elections of the party.

He was reportedly prevented by known NPP activist, Hajia Fati, when he attempted to pick forms earlier on Friday at the Asylum Down headquarters of the party.

Mr. Crabbe was part of the national executives suspended in 2015, and so his decision to contest for the chairmanship in spite of the suspension has come as a surprise.

He was suspended after he was deemed to have publicly rebelled against the party’s decision to indefinitely suspend its National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

A casualty of the confrontation was a reporter with Adom FM, Ama Sekyiwaa, who was allegedly assaulted by Hajia Fati as she tried to report on the incident.

“Hajia Fati came in after Sammy Crabbe had been asked to go and bring money. Actually, he came with a banker’s draft from the Ghana commercial bank, and he was asked to go and bring cash because they were taking cash,” Ama Sekyiwaa said.

“About 15 minutes after Sammy Crabbe left, Hajia Fati came in very angry and she was saying that she will not allow Sammy Crabbe to pick the [nomination] forms,” she added.

It was after this that Ama Sekyiwaa tried to interview Hajia Fati but she ended up being slapped.

“I got closer to her. I wanted to interview her so I took my phone out. I wanted to take a picture and so as soon as she turned, she looked at my face and asked me why I was taking pictures of her. I didn’t utter a word. She slapped me in the face, on my mouth and she almost took the phone from me.”

The nominations opened on May 3 for seven days ahead of the national delegates congress in Koforidua from 15th to 17th of June.
