It has emerged that Bekwai-based journalist who was killed by unknown assailant, was stabbed multiple times, leading to her death.

Portia Amma Agyeiwaaa of Dess FM was found in a pool of blood in front of her Bentil house room at Nyameduasi, a suburb of Asante-Bekwai after allegedly being stabbed on Sunday evening.

Preliminary police investigations revealed the deceased was stabbed in the chest, thigh and in the left arm with a sharp object.

“There has been some stabbing; some around the chest region, somewhere in the thigh and somewhere in the left or right arm as well,” ASP Juliana Obeng who speaks for police in Ashanti Region said.

The deceased, according to police also struggled with her assailant, forcing a television set which had been mounted on the wall, crushed to the ground after the assailant struggled and overpowered her before stabbing her with an unknown object.

Co-tenants later found her in a pool of blood in front of her room, having apparently crawled out to seek support.

Her mobile phone is believed to have been taken by the alleged culprits.

She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Bekwai Government Hospital on Sunday evening.

“We are not up till now able to tell if it was even done with the knife; if it was done with the cutlass or it was done with a machete. We are not able to establish which implement was used for the stabbing and of course, we are able to tell it was stabbing,” ASP Juliana Obeng revealed.

Shocked residents of Bekwai have been trooping in to see the blood-stained scene of the suspected murder.

Personnel of the Regional Criminal Investigations Department visited the scene on Monday morning.

Police in the Ashanti Region are asking residents of Bekwai to volunteer information that will aid investigation into the killing a broadcast journalist at Bekwai.

Meanwhile, workers of Dess FM are devastated by the murder of Ms Agyeiwaa who was the only female worker.

General Manager, Gordon Donkor says the station has lost “a very dedicated worker”.

“She is the only female worker we have now. She was doing a lot of work; she was at the front desk, she was our newscaster. She was doing our newspaper review every morning. She comes to work every day so even yesterday [Sunday] she was at work. After church, she came to work.

This is the second time in eleven years that a journalist has been murdered in cold blood in the Ashanti Region.

Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, Samuel Ennin, who was also News Editor of Ash FM, was shot at drinking spot at Pankrono Estate in 2007.

Though police later arrested two people in connection with the murder, the two were later convicted for robberies instead of murder.

The two, Sheriff Kabore and Kwame Ayew were said to have admitted to being involved in series of robberies in Kumasi and its environs.

It followed an assurance by then Inspector General of Police, Patrick Kwaretng Acheampong, who promised to bring the culprits to book.

He told a news conference a week after Mr. Ennin was gunned down that, no matter how long investigations would take, police will get to the culprits.
