Provide evidence I insulted Otumfuo or face me in court – DI boss

The Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Dr Kingsley Nyarko has challenged persons accusing him of impugning the character of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to publish the said insults.

According to him, he was demanding that the Kumasi Youth Association which made the allegation against him should provide the said insulting comment or retract their allegation, “especially against my person and render an unqualified apology to me and the other persons by 11/05/18.”

He said the group should be prepared to face him in court if they fail to do so by the stated date.

The Kumasi Youth Association led by its General Secretary, Kwabena Frimpong at a press conference in Kumasi last Monday mentioned Mr Gabby Asare Otchere Darko Founder of Danquah Institute, Nana Bediatuo Asante, Secretary to President Akufo-Addo, Deputy MASLOC Director, Afia Akoto, Deputy Director of the National Service Secretariat, Gifty Oware and Dr. Kingsley Nyarko of Danquah Institute and others as insulting Otumfuo Osei Tutu.

But vehemently denying insulting the Asantehene, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, in a statement said he and the rest were named just to court public hatred for them out of “malice”.

“We respect, adore and hold in high esteem the King of the Asante Kingdom and occupant of the Golden Stool.

“We thus see the association’s accusation as a deliberate and contrived attempt at courting public hatred for us as well as tarnishing our reputation, and most dangerously exposing us to a calculated agenda to needlessly make us unnecessary victims of no wrong done, but to achieve their own known agenda of hate and tribal bigotry,” he said in a statement.

Below is a copy of the statement

Re: Otumfuo Is Above Partisan Politics—Kumasi Youth Association (KUYA)

My attention has been drawn to a press conference organized by a group by name Kumasi Youth Association (KUYA) on Monday May 7, 2018 in Kumasi. The leadership of the group comprises the following: Kwabena Frimpong, General Secretary; Boakye Dankwa, Director of
Communication; Felix Ibrahim, Organizer; and Richard K. Bawua, representative of patrons.

At the press conference, and a subsequent press statement released, the group states Gabby Otchere-Darko “Predictably took to the Facebook and responded to the King against what customs and courtesy demands [,] which clearly shows [his] arrogance and lack of respect.”

They continued, “the said Facebook book response to our King gave room to characters like Edward the Slave of Hello FM, Afia Akoto (Deputy Director, MASLOC), Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, ([Executive] Director, [Danquah] Institute), Gifty Oware (Dep. Director, NSS) et al. to rain insults on
Abandwa (Golden Stool).

Sadly, but unsurprisingly, the association because of its intended malice failed to provide the said insults for the discerning public to decipher and come to an informed conclusion.

I would like to state emphatically that neither I, nor the other persons mentioned above, have ever, and will never ever insult the person of the King nor denigrate his Highest Office for any reason.

We respect, adore and hold in high esteem the King of the Asante Kingdom and occupant of the Golden Stool. We thus see the association’s accusation as a deliberate and contrived attempt at courting public hatred for us as well as tarnishing our reputation, and most dangerously exposing us to a calculated agenda to needlessly make us unnecessary victims of no wrong done, but to achieve their own known agenda of hate and tribal bigotry.

The behavior of the group is unacceptable and one that creates anomie in society and must be condemned by all well-mannered Ghanaians.

I therefore demand that the association provides the said insulting comment or retract their allegation, especially against my person and render an unqualified apology to me and the other persons by 11/05/18.

Failure to do so by the stated date, will lead to redress at the court.

Thank you

Signed
Kingsley Nyarko, Ph.D.
(Executive Director, Danquah Institute)
