Politicians Don’t Allow CID To Work – Nii Lantey Vandapuye

The member of Parliament for Odododuoduo constituency in the Greater Accra region, Nii Lantey Vandapuye, has observed that politicians are the main cause of incompetence within the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana police service.

The former Youth and Sports minister who was speaking on OTEC FM’s afternoon talk show dubbed “Dwabrem” said the fifty fake journalists who were deported from Australia, at the ongoing Commonwealth games must be investigated and prosecuted as well.

He suggested the formation of an independent special committee of inquiry by President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo.

” Although the CID is working on the matter, politicians will not allow them to work” he underscored.

On April 4, more than fifty Ghanaian journalists were deported from Australia, where they tried to gain entry on the pretext of being Sports journalists assigned to cover the Commonwealth Games.

The deportees were arrested when they reportedly failed to answer basic questions about Sports.

Mr. Vandapuye however described the incident as a disgrace to the Ghana but added there was an urgent need to get the dust settled.

He pointed out that Ghanaians have not learnt from the past mistakes, adding that 1996, 2010, 2014 and 2018 had been the most unfortunate years in the history of Ghana concerning sports.

The former sports minister stated that even though President Nana Akuffo Addo has initiated a process to unravel what actually triggered such a move but his actions were not enough.

He said the minority in Parliament wanted those fake journalists dealt with in order to serve as deterrent to others.
