Being young is great so great, in fact, that injecting their blood into the elderly might help fight aging.
Or at least that is what one man thinks could be true and he is running a US clinical trial to prove it.
Jesse Karmazin, a medical graduate, has launched a start up called Ambrosia, that is asking people to pay $8,000 (£6,500) to be injected with 1.5 litres of plasma from a donor aged between 16 and 25.
It sounds a bit grim but the former intern at the National Institute on Aging has watched dozens of procedures performed in the past and believes young blood could work like a drug.
He told Business Insider: ‘Some patients got young blood and others got older blood, and I was able to do some statistics on it, and the results looked really awesome.
‘And I thought, this is the kind of therapy that I’d want to be available to me.’
As yet, there is no absolute proof that young blood transfusions have health benefits but Karmazin is hoping his trial of 600 people in California will prove otherwise.
In the trial, patient’s blood will be tested for ‘bio markers’ which give an indication of health.
The scientist said that procedures he has performed have seen benefits, including improved appearance and muscle tone.
