Otumfuo Osei Tutu makes historic visit to Techiman

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has made a historic visit to Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region and paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu was on his way to Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region to attend the burial ceremony of the Omanhene of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom IV.

The historic visit was undertaken in spite of the long-standing feud between the Techiman Traditional Area and Asanteman over the elevation of some chiefs in the Tano-Subin area by the Asantehene.

Some disputed towns in the Tano-Subin area are Tuobodom, Buoyem and Tanodumase where some chiefs and people owe allegiance to the Techimanhene and others to the Asantehene.

The elevation of the chiefs who owe allegiance to the Asantehene led to bloody clashes in the disputed towns 15 years ago.

Techiman visit

It is against this backdrop that makes Otumfuo’s visit to Techiman to meet with Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, who received him warmly in his palace, very significant.
Socio-economic activities in the Techiman Municipality were brought to a halt when the Asantehene and his large retinue of chiefs entered the town and made their way to the palace of the Techimanhene.

The two rulers held discussions, following which the Techimanhene presented a number of items, including cattle, traditional drinks and 200 tubers of yams, to his guest.

Linguists of both the Techimanhene and Asantehene, Nana Owusu Ansa and Nana Nsuase Poku, respectively, spoke during the meeting.

Nana Owusu Ansa commended the Asantehene for his visit and stated that his visit and actions had shown that he was indeed a peace-loving king.

For his part, Nana Nsuase Poku told the gathering that Otumfuo decided to pay a courtesy call on the Techimanhene as a sign of his brotherly love.

He added that they were happy to be in the Techimanhene’s palace.
