One killed in Ahwiaa pandemonium

One person has been killed in renewed clashes between some Zongo youth and Asante youth at Ahwiaa in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The deceased, whose name was only given as Musah, 24; died Monday, 19 March 2018 in the course of the melee, assembly member for Ahwiaa, Mr Brenya K. Vasco stated.

His body has been conveyed to the Ankaase hospital mortuary.

Several others have been injured with many properties destroyed.

Elisha Adarkwah reported that parents were seen rushing to schools to pick up their wards as police officers also conveyed pupils from their schools to their homes.

A joint team of police and military personnel has since been deployed to the town.

Four people have been arrested.

The bloody clashes in Ahwiaa began last month with the factions attacking each other with machetes, broken bottles and other weapons after the townsfolk had prevented the Zongo youth from participating in the burial and funeral rites of a deceased lady.
