NDC Vice Chairman to walk from Accra to Kumasi to protest police recruitment cancellation

The deputy National Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) , the hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who is also a former minister of local government, has served public notice to embark on a ‘one man’ demonstration by walking from Accra to Kumasi to protest the councellation of the ongoing police recruitment.

The local governance expert and former board chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority was speaking with show host Akyena Brantuo on Ahotor FM’s 360 politics on Friday, 10th February, 2017.

Mr.  Ampofo who was on the program to asses the one month old Akuffo Addo government, was livid about the police administration’s decision to terminate ongoing police recruitment started by the previous police administration under the erstwhile NDC government.

Mr Ampofo insist the ongoing practice coupled with the dismissals of top civil servants suggest a coup mentality and an attack on corporate governance.
He argues that the police administration’s explanation that the recruitment was cancelled because it was tainted with irregularities is only lame and shameful.

It is the considered opinion of honourable Ampofo that granted this allegations which has bedevil the recruitment process are true, the the police administration must take full responsibility and resign emblock for failing to supervise a credible recruitment process.

But he thinks it is rather politics more than anything else which is the real motive behind the said aborted police recruitment.

‘This must not go unnoticed. ‘ He has said.

On his part he will be walking from Accra to Kumasi to compel the government to reverse this human right abuse. He is also calling on human right lawyers to join in this campaign to protect the employment right of citizens by helping the affected victims take a class action against government in court.
