Kumasi youth locks up Daily Guide office over Asantehene report

The offices of the Daily Guide newspaper in Kumasi was Tuesday night invaded by some youth said to be members of the Kumasi Youth Association (KuYA) who wants a retraction and an apology from the newspaper, in relation to a report that linked the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to an alleged money laundering case in London.

“This morning we came to work to meet the entrance of our office locked up with padlocks with notices splashed on the building asking us to immediately apologise to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,” Enerst Kofi Adu, a journalist working with Daily Guide newspaper stated.

“With immediate effect KuYA demand an apology and front page retraction and further comes [sic] to the royal palace to apologise to His Royal Majesty. Failure to do so will lead to permanent closure of your office in Kumasi. The kindom [sic] is bigger than any individual or company,” one of the notices read.

Other warning inscriptions on the wall read, “Be warn Daily Guide.”

The newspaper has reported the matter to the police.
