Kotoko to face Hearts in MTN FA Cup final – After beating Medeama 1-0

Porcupine Warriors Kumasi Asante Kotoko had to struggle to beat Medeama Sporting Club by a lone goal to set a date with Accra Hearts of Oak for the grande finale of this year’s MTN FA Cup in Tamale.

It took Kotoko 98 minutes to score the much needed goal to qualify for the final.

It was one of the scrappiest goal ever scored in the tournament but that was all Asante Kotoko needed to move to final stage.

Saddick Adams who had wasted glorious opportunities during open play, in a goal mouth melee, kicked the ball from the hands of Yaw Ansah, in posts for Medeama, after the latter failed to grab the ball from a kick by a Kotoko player.

Although the goal, was not the nicest, it got the supporters of the club who had thronged the stadium into wild jubilation.

During the second half of the extra time, Medeama nearly equalised through Edmond Peprah but his kick, which everybody thought had hit the net, rather hit the post and bounced back into the safe hands of Felix Annan.

Kotoko had to resort to delays tactics to kill time.

The game had to go into extra time to determine the winner after the two teams ended the fulltime goalless.

In the regulations time, both teams played a determined game but failed to score the needed goal that would see them through.

The match which was originally scheduled for Sunday, October 1 had to be rescheduled for Monday, October 2 after a torrential rain fall forced the referee to call off the match.

Five minutes into the game, the heavens opened but the match continued for 15 minutes more until the pitch became very slippery and soggy making ball control, very difficult.

After consulting the match commissioner and the coaches, the referee called off the match.
