Kojo, Suhuyini for Parliament; Ebi Bright, Salinko, others unsuccessful

Of the seven active and ‘retired’ entertainment personalities vying for parliamentary positions in the 2016 general elections, only two managed to win their respective seats.

The provisional results collated indicated that Kojo Oppong Nkrumah won the Ofoase- Ayirebi parliamentary seat with about 17,797 of the valid votes cast.

Musician Diamond Appiah, together with former TV3 presenter Eric Don Arthur lost their bid to represent their respective constituencies as the ballots they polled proved unsuccessful to secure them victory.

Ms Appiah polled a disappointing 433 votes out of a total of 76,143 valid votes cast at the Trobu Constituency in Amasaman while TV Personality Eric Don Arthur was also floored by incumbent Member of Parliament for Effutu constituency Alex Afenyo Markin who ran on the ticket of the opposition NPP.

Don Arthur polled 12,954. A total of 37,109 were cast in the Effutu Constituency. Also popular actor of TV series Efiewura and host of Edziban, Kwame Dzokoto could not make it to the finishing line of the parliamentary race.

He lost his bid for the Tarkwa –Nsuaem parliamentary seat to the NPP’s George Mireku Duker. Actress Ebi Bright’s desire to go to parliament on the ticket of the NDC for the Tema Central constituency failed to materialise, after she was defeated by the NPP candidate, Mr Kofi Brako.

Ebi Bright polled 12,937 votes compared to the eventual winner, Mr Brako who won with 28,334 votes.

Actor Salinko, real name Abraham Kofi Davis who contested on the ticket of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) was also unsuccessful to annex the Atwima Kwanwoma constituency in the Ashanti Region, polling 858 votes and losing out to NPP’s John Appiah Kubi.
