IGP, CDS & CAS confirmed after Council of State backing

The appointments of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Chief of Army Staff (CAS) have been confirmed after a Council of State greenlight.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had appointed David Asante Appeatu, Major General Obed Boamah Akwa and Maj. Gen. William Azure Ayamdo as IGP, CDS and CAS respectively in the absence of a Council of State.

The three had been acting in their roles, as a result. But a few days after the members of the Council were sworn in, the presidency released a statement confirming the officers.

“The said appointments take effect forthwith,” the statement on Saturday, March 4 said. The confirmation is in pursuant of articles 202 and 212 of the 1992 constitution.
