I condemn all attacks on journalists- Ofosu-Ampofo

The Vice chairman and Director of elections of the Nrational Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has added his voice to earlier admonishing by interest groups and civil society organizations over the recent attacks and assaults meted out to journalists and situational correspondent on line of duty.

Journalists in recent times have incessantly gone through severe attacks and abuse of all forms by sections of the public for different reasons in their line of duty with current ordeals being the attack on a journalist; Latif Iddrisu of Joy FM , who was beating to pulp by some police personnel at the national police headquarters in Accra, and the donation of slaps to a reporter with Adom FM ; Ohemaa Sekyiwaa on  Friday 2/5/2018″ by a known NPP  fanatic , affectionately called Hajia Fati at the Party’s National head office at Asylum down in Accra.

Similarly, there have also been several cases of abuse on local reporters designated on various beats on assignments in the country, which have raised a lot of eye -brows in regards to the safety of journalist in the country.

Painstaking investigations conducted by ahotoronline.com reveals there have been recorded cases of attacks on journalists continuously for 5 months now coupled with other extraneous vile attacks on the Press by ordinary citizens and security operatives.

 

The Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) as well as Pro- media groups have mounted pressure on the Akufo-Addo – led administration to take punitive sanctions against persons and institutions who violates and impede media men and women designated to undertake lawful duties by their organizations at different jurisdictions.

 

Through a Facebook post on Thursday afternoon dated 10/5/2018, the chief executive officer of Universal Multimedia Broadcasting Limited, Hon. Ofosu-Ampofo wrote on his timeline that “Any Form of attack on the media must be condemn, it’s noted that, the role of the media in our quest to build a sustainable democracy cannot be underestimated.

Without any reservations I condemn all attacks on journalists. Journalists must also be fair in their engagements and represent public interest”.
