Government Using Amidu To Divert Attention From Ameri Scandal – Suhuyini

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, has described as an attempt to divert public attention away from the “stinking” Ameri deal reports suggesting that the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga attempted blocking the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu from investigating the former.

According to a statement sighted by Kasapafmonline.com, the outspoken Prosecutor accused Mahama Ayariga of sending personal friends, former colleagues, chiefs, pastors among others, to beg him [Amidu] to stop some investigations against him [Ayariga].

Mr Amidu said Ayariga has become adamant despite all his attempts to get him back down on his unnecessary pleas through high profile persons.

“I asked EOCO on a number of occasions to warn the suspect to desist from his conduct of obstructing the investigations by soliciting others to put pressure on me to abate same to no avail,” he said.

The SP statement stated that Ayariga is under investigation on suspicion of commission of corruption and abusing his office by importing three used Toyota Land Cruiser V8s into the country.

But speaking on Tv3, Alhassan Suhuyini said the publication of the alleged Ayariga investigation is a deliberate attempt by the government through Martin Amidu to douse the public outcry over the revelations from the new Ameri deal.

“If they think they are going to use this to divert attention from the stinking Ameri deal and several other fraudulent transactions that are going on, they should think again because is not going to wash. The people of Ghana will continue to find out if people are hanging puppies and leaving dogs” he said.

According to him, there is no need for Mr. Amidu to disclose the alleged sending of personal friends, pastors or chiefs by Mahama Ayariga to the public, because that does not in any way stop him from going ahead with his investigation.

“Read the story, what is in it, if people are coming to you so what, is there any law that syas that if people come to you, you cannot do your work” “Telling the whole Ghana that people are coming to you, so what, what should the people of Ghana do” he asked The Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko was sacked by the President after the President was allegedly misled into approving the new AMERI deal which had been by Executive Order.

The Novation and Amendment agreement was seeking to buy out the deal Ameri Energy had with the government of Ghana under President John Mahama and handed over to a third party Mytilineos for 15 years.

Ghana would have ended up paying over Ghc1 billion under the new arrangement.
