Ghana’s Best Laws Lack Implementations- Amaliba

A renowned legal practitioner and a a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Abraham Amaliba has stated that Ghana has the best laws but the citizenry lack it’s implementation.

Speaking on the ruling of a seven member panel of the supreme court (SC) on Wednesday ordering the Attorney General to immediately initiate process of surcharging any person found to have misappropriated state funds

Amaliba commended the supreme court ruling stating that immediate actions should be taken.

He stated that the laws to retrieve and prosecute government officials who misappropriate funds is not new and all that is needed as a country are actions to implement them.

He continue by stating, that the public account committee only has the powers to interrogate officials who may be found culpable and recommend prosecution actions to the Attorney  General.

The public account committee do not have powers to prosecute and it is most unfortunate.

Amaliba sighted an example in the Kenyan’s public account committee having the powers to arrest directly after investigation has proven officials guilty and that should be an example to Ghana’s governance processes.

” Ghana has the best laws and all that we need are the implementations”

“People refuse to obey these laws because, corrupt government officials are not given the needed punishment they deserve and others are also exempted from such punishments because they know big men who will be at their rescue should they be found culpable” , Amaliba stated.

He was speaking in a telephone conversation with Ahotor FM’s Morning Show host Emmanuel Quarshie (Hit man) on Thursday 15th June 2017,

Lawyer Amaliba holds the view that the Laws in the country is one of the best in the world and if implement will go a long way in making our country better.
