GH HIP HOP ARTISTS DON’T MAKE MUCH MONEY IN GHANA – GEMINI

Ghanaian hip hop artist Victor Mawuli Orleans-Fiaka known in showbiz as Gemini claim that those of them that do hip hop music in Ghana do not make much money from their efforts. He made the revelation on the Ahotor Weekend Show hosted by DJ Use on Ahotor 92.3 FM.

“Ghanaians have not embraced hip hop music the way they pay attention to Hip Life and Afrobeats making it very difficult for hip hop rappers to make good returns same way some top Hip Life/ Afrobeats artists are making it; Ghanaians prefer music that will make them dance a lot” He explained.

Gemini who claims the title Dopest Rapper (Dr.) for which he wants to be called DR. GEMINI had a conversation with the host on his music career, upcoming music projects and views about the Ghanaian music industry.

He further explained that though he and his colleagues are not making much money, he is not thinking of switching the genre of music he does because hip hop music was what he fell in love with back in JHS, thus started rapping since High School.

Signed to his own record label Mawuli Recordings and having worked with several record labels such as 2131, Last Two, Make A Million, BBnz, VRMG among others, Gemini says that he is more focused on producing creative music content even if the music does not go commercial like others; a reason he is still producing classic hip hop music even though Ghanaians do not seem to fully accept the genre.

Answering questions on rumors about his beef with fellow rapper Sarkodie, Gemini dismissed the rumors and said there is absolutely no problem between himself and Sarkodie; thus, do not know why some Ghanaians claim that he is at logger heads with his fellow rap artist.

In advising upcoming artists who also sing hip hop, Gemini said those artists must be strong enough for the Ghanaian industry since hip hop is not lucrative enough but it does also not mean that no Gh hip hop artist cannot make waves in Ghana. Since he is looking forward to a better career with hip hop hoping that Ghanaians will soon embrace hip hop music fully.

Gemini asked that his fans should have hope in him and that he is not slacking as many fans think. Deducing from the feedback that he is too good not to be making hits and it is because he is not hardworking enough.

He also promised fans to expect more classic hip hop music from him since he is working hard on some singles and an album to be released soon.
