FIFA hits Messi

Lionel Messi was today hit with an incredible 4-match suspension by FIFA, and the news has rocked the world of football.

Messi has been banned for verbally abusing the referee during last weekend’s World Cup qualifier against Chile.

Messi was not sanctioned the ref at the time, which led to FIFA intervening and handing the extraordinary ban to the Barcelona man.

Messi is alleged to have used very personal and aggressive abuse at the officials in the game which Argentina won, ironically courtesy of a Leo Messi penalty.

While Messi’s behavior can’t be condoned, a 4 game ban does seem a little excessive.

Players abuse referees like this all the time and don’t even get a one game ban, let alone 4.

So are FIFA using Messi as some sort of patsy here?

That could be the case; at any rate, it seems they may have an agenda against him, as they didn’t even inform him of the ban: they published it straight to their website.
