Chief, 12 Others Arrested After Chereponi Clash

Police in the Northern Region have arrested 13 people, including a Community chief, after clashes in Chereponi in the Northern Region.

Two people have been confirmed dead after two factions, the Trokosis and Kokombas clashed in the Nadoni community.

Some homes were also razed.
Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, ASP Yusif Tanko, confirmed the arrests to Citi News.

ASP Yusif Tanko added that investigations are underway to ascertain the actual cause of the conflict.

“Some investigators were sent to the area. They discovered that two persons from the Kokombas had died as a result. Some cottages were burnt down and foodstuff burnt.”

Police found weapons in the house of a Trokosi chief in the area after a search by police.

“Two shotguns were discovered and as a result, the chiefs and elders were arrested and taken to the police station. They numbered 13… Apart from that, police retrieved an AK 47 magazine with 20 rounds of ammunition in it and also a single-barrelled gun,” ASP Yusif Tanko said.

The District Chief Executive of Chereponi, Abdul Razak Tahiru, earlier told Citi News that the renewed clashes because of a dispute over a three-acre land.

He accused the leadership of the two feuding factions for failing to control the situation after a meeting with the District Security Committee that placed an injunction on the disputed land.
