Bribery scandal: Ayariga, Agyarko, others face Ghartey committee today

The parliamentary ad hoc committee probing the bribery scandal that has hit the appointments committee will resume sitting today, Monday February 20.

The committee suspended sitting last Friday following a hearing request by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a witness in the matter.

The chairperson of the committee Joe Ghartey subsequently adjourned the sitting and ordered the clerk of parliament to serve notice to all witnesses expected to appear before the committee.

Meanwhile, the chief witness Mahama Ayariga has told the media he is upbeat about meeting the committee with the ‘truth’.

“I’m here to tell the story as I know it. I was invited by the committee and I am here. If you are going to speak the truth, do you need a lawyer? If I’m here to speak the truth what is the issue about coming with a lawyer,” he said.

Other witnesses expected to appear before the committee include Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak and Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko
