Amidu’s appointment: Akufo-Addo is holding the tail of a lion – Inusah Fuseini

The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, says even though the appointment of a former Attorney-General, Martin Alamisi Burnes Kaiser Amidu as the Special Prosecutor is worth it, the risk at stake is very high.

According to him, having known Mr. Amidu as independent person he is, he will go after anybody suspected to have engaged in corrupt practices, including President Nana Akufo-Addo, who appointed him.

In Mr. Amidu, he said the President is holding the tail of a lion.

“The President [Akufo-Addo] is holding the tail of a lion and he can never leave it. Once he leaves it, he is in trouble”, he noted.

The Tamale Central lawmaker made this observation on News File, Saturday, when contributing to the discussion on the appointment of Mr. Amidu as the Special Prosecutor.

President Akufo-Addo on Thursday evening named the former Attorney General as the Special Prosecutor subject to Parliamentary approval.

This was after he assented to five Acts including that of the Special Prosecutor on January 2, 2017, which were passed by Parliament last year.

Parliament passed the Office of the Special Prosecutor Bill in November last year, which allows for the establishment of an independent anti-corruption institution to deal with public officials who have been deemed or found liable to corrupt dealings.
