African democracy is one-sided, voting but not freedom of Speech- Bobie Ansah

Nana Bobie Ansah, a senior journalist has stated that Africa will continue struggling with Democracy if it only defines the subject as voting without  freedom of speech.

He was speaking on Ahotor FM’s 360 politics with Akyena Brantuo on Friday 16th June, 2017.

Yayah Jammeh’s Ghambia under his tenure was a handy example he cited to illustrate the intolerance of African leaders.

“We only believe the aspect of voting in democracy, but we ignore the major aspect which is tolerance” . He said.

“I can say categorically that there is no political party in Ghana that believes in true democracy “, Mr Ansah added.

In Ghana, According to the Ace broadcaster, the people’s ability to tolerate opposing views especially amongst political parties is neither seen in the ruling New patriotic party nor the opposition parties.

He says he does not see the need for members of the same political group to castigate or condemn each other just to gain an upper hand in any political endeavour. In his words ‘ it is “unthinkable”

He advocated for tolerance in intra party politics.
