Actors, Movie Producers To Demonstrate Against Kumkum Bagya, Others

Foreign telenovelas translated in Twi is gradually taking over TV screens in Ghana and this has been largely been spoken against by many industry players.

Despite the constant talk against the new trend by stakeholders, no policy has been taken to stop or reduce the rate at which it is shown on TV. This has pushed movie makers in the country to plan a demonstration against telenovelas translated in Twi languages.

The Film Producers Association of Ghana will stage a demonstration on Thursday, August 31 in Kumasi to protest against Kumkum Bagya and others. The ‘Yegye Y’adee’ campaign to fight against ‘Twinovelas’  will commence from the Cultural Center. The movie producers, actors and stakeholders will walk through the streets of Kumasi.

In a petition sent to Otumfour Osei Tutu to stage the march, the group stated that “the current incessant influx of diverse telenovela programs on our national screens which indent on the progress of the Local Movie Industry of the Nation as well as having bad repercussions on the Akan culture.”
