33rd Farmers Day celebration tomorrow- who wins?

The 2017 Farmers Day celebration will be the first under the new government and the 33rd since it was instituted in 1985 in recognition of the vital role farmers and fishers play in the economy.

The institution of the day was within a context of the commendable output of farmers and fishermen in 1984 (about 30 percent growth), after the bad agricultural years of 1982 and 1983.

The 32nd Farmers Day last year witnessed a 42-year-old farmer, Mr Robert Crentsil, from the Ejumako-Enyan-Essiam District of the Central Region emerging as the Overall Best Farmer.

The 2017 commemoration will witness hardworking farmers and fishers gathering in the Ashanti Region to be recognised and rewarded.

The day will also draw the attention of Ghanaians to the agricultural sector by concurrent celebrations in all regional capitals and some districts, as well as various agricultural exhibitions across the country.

The national celebration in Kumasi will award the Overall Best Farmer and others for 2017.
